MR. ALEX (Special Education Grades K–6)

Email Alex | 507-895-4054

Mr. Alex began working at LMSS as a paraprofessional in the E1 classroom after moving back to his hometown of La Crosse in 2021. Before that, he lived in Chicago where he worked as a teacher at a co-op play-based preschool for 5 years. Aside from teaching and learning, Alex has a passion for audio and music. He has consistently played in original rock bands since he was a teenager!

Mr. Alex’s favorite thing about teaching is getting to learn from his students everyday, and observe amazing moments of growth. He appreciates how LMSS has such a true sense of community. In 2023, Mr. Alex became the special education teacher for the lower elementary grades. He really enjoys being a larger part of La Crescent Montessori’s mission, and to help ensure the learning and personal growth of all students.

MS. TYANNE (Special Education Grades 7–12)

Email Tyanne | 507-895-4054

Miss Tyanne graduated Summa Cum Laude from Minnesota State University, Mankato with Bachelor of Science in Corrections and Sociology in 2008. She was drawn to Montessori education through her background of work and study in child development, behavior change, and mental health. In her role as a Crisis Interventionist from 2009-2011, Tyanne worked with teachers and social workers to implement safety plans and on-site counseling in public schools in Southern Illinois. It was during this time that she witnessed the vital role teachers play in supporting students with unique needs and first became interested in Special Education.

Miss Tyanne began at LMSS as a parent volunteer in 2018 and quickly transitioned to working as a classroom assistant and special education paraprofessional from 2019-2023. After five years of absorbing Montessori philosophy and methods, Tyanne went back to graduate school at Winona State University to pursue a Special Education certification as an Academic & Behavioral Strategist. She is passionate about the future of Special Education at LMSS and the power of Montessori education in serving students with disabilities. Her favorite part of working here is the abundance of opportunities she has to observe happy children playing, growing, and learning.

Outside of the classroom, Tyanne is an active member of the La Crescent community as a parent, volunteer, and supporter of local organizations that help children and adolescents thrive. She enjoys daily strength training at the gym, running long distance races, and spending time with her family and dog on local hiking trails.

About the Special Education Program

La Crescent Montessori & STEM School has educators licensed to provide special education and related services for those students who meet criteria and have special education needs.

Parents and students are directly involved with the school and appropriate outside agency staff in the development of the special education program and the student’s Individual Education Plan (IEP) for school-age children.

Students are eligible for special education services until the IEP Team decides to terminate services. Students remain with their general education peers in the least restrictive environment (LRE) to the extent the IEP Team determines is appropriate.

Special education program evaluation is accomplished through a single strategic plan to improve due process compliance and program results for students with disabilities.
